Apple Mac OS X 10.5.2 (Mac OS X)
Upgraded with serious qualms after reading the vituperative comments on here earlier today (see below if you can stomach 'em!), but all went smoothly. Great snappy operating system with much to enjoy about it. The usual checks before and after with Disk Ute showed no problems ... no quirks in Activity Monitor, iCal, Airport on these machines ... so go for it! [alert admin]

Sogudi 0.4.7 (Mac OS X)
... for the beta that's compatible with 10.5 on Intel. Seems to be working fine here, and great to have that quick search facility that Sogudi provides so goodly ..... ;o) [alert admin]

MyPopBarrier 2.4.4 (Mac OS X)
Good to see another way of purging e-mails from server (POPmonitor seems to have frozen development!) when those bursts of spam arrive and flood the mailbox! Grrr! As explained below, you can delete individual e-mails, and it seems - subjectively and unscientifically tested, hence 'seems' - faster than POPmonitor ... But I'd love to be able to select multiple e-mails to mark them all for deletion simultaneously .... s'il vous plait, Tom? Merci pour ce petit logiciel utile ...et libre! ;o) [alert admin]

Dali Clock 2.25 (Mac OS X)
In the interest of fairness ... ![]()

... how does Versiontracker compute the overall rating as 1 star, after three votes (1-star twice and 5-star once?) ....? Surely it should use the mathematical average (mean) of the ratings (1+1+5 divided by 3 raters = 2.3, or 2 stars - in an ideal world, it would disable double voting and the true mathematical average of the two votes would be 1+5 divided by 2 raters = 3 stars) not either the mode or median (both of which would be 1 star, as currently shown)
It's a mathematical aberration that's unfair to the guy porting this vintage prog to OSX.
So my vote of four stars (one notch above Neutral on the ratings page) is to restore some fairness ... let's hope the rating system reflects that!

Apple iTunes 7.5 (Mac OS X)
.... I've never had a problem with iTunes. This new 7.5 works just as easily and well as all the other versions. It just might be worth glancing at other feedback left by at least one 'reviewer' below, as his vitriol-filled comments on everything (particularly Apple products) probably reveal more about him than the products 'reviewed' .... Namely 2.1 (Mac OS X)
Well, that's what I thought when I saw this little app: Why would I need this? I have a dock! I know where my Apps are .... Doh! This clever little thing is far smarter than me .... I now use it constantly, instead of loading rarely-used programs into the dock (a far slimmer dock looks good - now to try the same thing on me!) .... Namely ... in a word: "brilliant" ..! eBaytoiCal 1.9.4 (Mac OS X)
"Couldn't parse the page - are you sure it's from ebay?"
Yes, ebay.co.uk ... tried a few different pages in case it just didn't like my buying taste, but same result. I think it's struggling with British Summer Time (we've all struggled with the bloody summer here!) as it tries to find the ebay zone, because it works when I try to buy a motorboat on French ebay ... as I do most days!

TinyAlarm 1.2 (Mac OS X)
Thanks for this great little menubar alarm - so easy to configure and use (choose pre-configured times from menu or push the hands around the cute little clock to set your own time). Perfect ... Of course, it would be über-perfect if it could set multiple alarms (sometimes life gets complicated!!), and then it would need bits of text input to explain which alarm was which ... but until then it's just great!! Thanks ... ;o) [alert admin]

. . . it doesn't get used regularly, just for the occasional treat .... but it's never failed yet, and is great at playing iTunes while you fall asleep and then sending the Mac to sleep. So .. thanks, Jonas! Re comments below: • yes, there are lots of updates, so turning the autoupdate off and using versiontracker's RSS is the best option for keeping up to date .... • err, yes, if Aurora's set to 'wake from sleep', then it pays to send your Mac to sleep! Otherwise, it'd be a bit like arranging to pick the children up from school in the afternoon, and forgetting to send them to school in the morning! Which reminds me ... I have to go! Short comment: Aurora is the best iTunes sleeper and alarm that I have ever tried. [alert admin]

If you don't dare use it, that's fine .. only you can take responsibility for what you do on your Macs. But to moan at free high-quality software that is bloody useful is so counter-productive: would you carry on updating free software if this was the prevailing attitude? To Santa software: thanks for MainMenu, imho the best of the maintenance apps ... and thanks for the new update too! ;o)

This may be the key bit of the 'review' ... "i have had been having lots of problem" ... You did test/repair permissions and stuff before and after the upgrade didn't you ... ? If you were having problems before, at least do that to give it a chance - and better still, do clean install of 10.5 and use combo updater.

Ummm, wouldn't it be better to search the Apple Support site (150+ references for this subject) and perhaps the Apple Forums than put this up here? This isn't really a helpline ....! ;o)

Yeah, I know it's not a sign of sanity to comment on one's own comments, but steam is again failing to find the BBC listings . . . *sigh* ... any good substitutes out there??

Q.: How do you make God laugh? A.: You post a comment, and then check your facts again. After weeks of showing nothing on any channel, Steam is once again managing to find and download the schedules from the BBC site, so stick with it .... although it still fails to communicate with iCal like it used to before Tiger came along ....
