Product Description:

WebObjects is Apple's enterprise framework for developing scalable Web applications using proven object-oriented design principals. Because it is written in Java, after you build your application on the Mac you can deploy it most anywhere, running it stand-alone or combined with other application servers.

What's new in this version:

WebObjects 5.4.3 is an update release for the version of WebObjects included in the Mac OS X Leopard tools. This release addresses issues in the areas of runtime database interaction, Direct to Web, and field validation, among others. This update can be installed on Mac OS X 10.5.3 or later with Xcode 3.1 or later version of the Developer Tools installed.

Xcode 2.4 release notes states the following which raises WO's future concerns?

Deprecation Notice
NOTE: As of the release of Xcode 2.4, the Cocoa Java bridge has been deprecated. This means that,
while still supported with Xcode 2.4, future releases of Xcode may not support the bridge or other
dependent features. Due to this, the following additional WebObjects developer applications are also
being deprecated:
EOModeler
EOModeler Plugin
WebObjects Builder
WebServices Assistant
RuleEditor
WOALauncher
This also means that the Xcode Java bridge templates have been deprecated, and should not be used
for new Java bridge-based development.

I hope that you all realize that WebObjects is now free for development! This is tremendous and is ready to take the web application development world by storm!

Of course deployment is not free, but server deployment it is looking very attractive as you can simply buy your Mac OS X Server 10 client license package and then install this on other server platforms since the license is not bound to server platform anymore with the 5.3 release! Interesting times indeed!

I would never have hoped that Apple releases a WO patch for 10.4 without forcing everyone to buy a new license - amazing! Thanks, guys.
