Product Description:
This is an unofficial extended version of the MPlayer OSX GUI.
While MPlayer is the superior media player for OSX and has a very nice GUI, it was lacking in access to the many powerful functions the backend provides and development hasn't been very fast. Since I had some time on my hands I decided to learn Cocoa and improve the MPlayer OSX GUI.
In the process, I also figured out how to compile a redistributable version of the mplayer core and provide a recent build from the SVN.
Changes to the GUI include:
- Fullscreen controls
- More video filter options (Postprocessing, Deinterlace etc)
- Support for styled ASS subtitles
- Audio and video equalizers (not yet interactive)
- Taking Screenshots
- Stream selection
- Various interface improvements
What's new in this version:

- Automatic updates with Sparkle
- Font and font style selection with Fontconfig
- Automatic detection of subtitle encoding for supported languages
- Improved and expanded font, subtitles and osd options
- Options for AC3 and DTS pass-through
- Internal video output support for multiple gui instances
- Better Fontconfig cache warning
- Fix going back to fullscreen on Tiger
- Fix some memory related issues
- Other small fixes
- Includes MPlayer build r28284 from 9. January 2009

leoofborg1This is an AWESOME port of MPlayer. Previously I could ONLY do what could be done using terminal commands; in addition, the author has cleaned up some freetype/font config bugs that kept me from seeing styled subtitles the way they were meant to be seen.
Add to that EASY font color [for SRT] and scaling, even of styled fonts, and MKV chaptering [only available via Quicktime with Perian, *not* VLC], and MPE is a winner.
Yes, there are minor little bugs [like forcing aspect ratio broken], but at this point MPE's a winner.
My nephew and I [Macross Frontier fans!] thank the dev. Fantastic job!
Also: The source builds very easily. Thank you for putting the source up as well!

This version, though not 'official', has a great feel and plays everything I've thrown at it thus far. The scrubbing through the progress bar is smoother and more accurate than I've gotten from VLC and I appreciate the aesthetic touches added.
