Gizmo5 ReviewIncompatible with earlier (3.1.2) Gizmo Project? - Version: 4.0.0.258, 5/18/2008 10:24AM PST

I managed to download and set the app, and it recognized **my** Gizmo Project account, though the account information was empty, and I had to enter my account/user information all over again. It did not add any of my earlier (Gizmo Project v3.1.2) contacts, however, and when I searched for them, they could not be found. So, all this leads me to believe that Gizmo5 is an entirely different beast from the earlier Gizmo Project, even if it shares the same icon. The implication is that your universe of contacts will all have to re-enter their account info under Gizmo5 for you to be able to reach them. This is a shame; it is starting out all over again. Skype maintains all contact information with each new update.

The one positive change is that you can now enter a graphic of your choice as your account picture, rather than having to choose from the array of Pablum icons offered by the developer.

I hope that the developers are reading this and that they will solve this serious disconnect between versions.

Gizmo5 CommentaryProblems with version 4 (Gizmo5.app) on PPC Mac - Version: 4.0.0.247, 4/17/2008 07:19AM PST

If you have a PPC Mac, make sure this new version works before you delete the old version 3.1.2 (I didn't). In my case, it wouldn't connect (thus 'work') on the first Mac I tried...a G4 iBook. In fact, it wouldn't Quit either...had to use Force Quit.

Time Machine to the rescue...went back an hour and Restored version 3.1.2. And the restored version worked perfectly again.

Promptly trashed Gizmo5 assuming that it's only been vetted on Intel Macs.

Hi,

I'm wondering about the VersionTracker description of Gizmo:

"Gizmo - Mac OS X
P2P telephony client using the SIP protocol"

Gizmo is definitely a SIP client. As such, it talks with a SIP server in order to communicate with other SIP clients.

In what sense is Gizmo a P2P client?
