Product Description:

FMrobot automates the creation of tables and fields in a FileMaker Pro file. This includes bringing over fields with their field types and their field definitions (calculations, auto-enter values, validations, etc.). FMrobot can also move Custom Functions, Value Lists, and Privilege Sets from one file to another.

FMrobot gives you the power to:
  • Move tables from one file to another
  • Create a standard library of fields to put into any table
  • Create a library of "template tables"
  • Duplicate a table
  • Consolidate many tables into a single file
  • Add fields to an existing table

What's new in this version:

Fixes a problem that could cause Extended Privilege checkbox settings to be incorrectly replicated in the target file’s privilege sets.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

FMrobot ReviewEssential for copying Custom Functions - Version: 1.7.1, 6/14/2008 07:42AM PST

I first started using FMrobot 0.8.3 in 2005 to copy Tables (or selected field definitions) from one FileMaker database to another. When table cloning became a built-in FileMaker feature, I stopped using FMrobot because FileMaker was so much easier and faster. But I still miss FMrobot's superior reporting when encountering errors (e.g., references to undefined items). Since FileMaker silently turns undefined references into comments, it's easy to overlook these errors.

I'm still using FMrobot, now at 1.7.1 on Mac OS X, because it's the only practical way to copy Custom Functions from one FIleMaker file to another. I have a huge investment in hundreds of Custom Functions, and I can't imagine how I'd manage with raw FileMaker. Copy-n-paste is way too tedious and error-prone.

FMrobot loses a star in my rating because the Mac OS X feature set perpetually lags behind the Windows release.

The price is $199 for 1 Mac user. The demo only does what FileMaker Pro Advanced already does: copy field definitions. I am not willing to trust it to do everything else without a working demo, or a few positive reviews.
