Product Description:
Audio application that allows users to easily record their collection of old vinyl records using just the Griffin iMic and their turntable. Previously users wishing to record their old record collection had to hook up their entire stereo system just to power their turntable. Now users can connect the record player directly to their iMic, and using Final Vinyl record and save all their old albums. They can then make them into CDs, MP3s etc. Final Vinyl does more than just record old albums; it is a fully functional general audio recording application as well. It can be used to record instruments, microphones and reel-to-reel tapes plugged into the iMic. It includes a 10-band Equalizer that is capable of significantly altering and enhancing a user's sound input. For example, inexpensive microphones could be improved by tweaking the bass response. Old worn records can be fine tuned and tonally corrected. All this and more can be done using the completely free Final Vinyl combined with the Griffin iMic.
What's new in this version:
- Fixed a problem that prevented the effects list from working properly under Mac OS X 10.4.
- Fixed a problem where interrupting Save could cause Final Vinyl to crash.
- Fixed a problem where closing the window while the waveform was being rebuilt could cause Final Vinyl to crash.

The Preferences allow you to choose what output format you want. But the choice is betweenAIFC or WAV. NOT MP3! What gives?
So, even if Final Vinyl works, you still will have to convert the results to MP3s.

This is my first time to ever use Final Vinyl and I had no problems hooking up my Denon turntable to my Mac via an iMic (although I think I could have just used the RCA to mini plug). I converted a double LP album which was recorded live. That made it hard to detect all the tracks because there is talking and clapping between songs. Apparently, Final Vinyl can detect tracks automatically, which is very nice, but I could not find any way to delete pops and snaps as you can with Audacity.

-Experienced several crashes, but it recovers well without losing the captured music. One crash was on launch. One moving the gain slider.
-The waveform is often inaccurate, with silent parts showing high volume, and rebuilding didn't help.
-It is nearly intuitive to use, but the "connected to turntable" radio button on the EQ > Effects menu is placed at the bottom where it is initially invisible until you scroll or expand the window, so you can easily miss it. It should be at the top next to the other "Typical Connection" button. Go figure. This is the one you'll need if you are importing vinyl (remember the name of the program...), so it's odd that it isn't the default, and that you have to hunt for it.
Note that applied effects can't be undone.
Overall, a nicely done program that is a welcome addition to Griffin's iMic.
