Product Description:

Designed to protect Mac OS X systems with absolute accuracy and reliability, Dantz Retrospect Backup properly backs up and restores all Mac OS X files and information, including both the data and resource forks of multi-part files, HFS+ metadata, UNIX-style permissions and group ownership, and hard-linked files. Automatic scheduling ensures that backups run even when no Mac OS X user is logged in, and Retrospect client software allows entire networks of Macs to be backed up and restored across the LAN. Dantz Retrospect Backup v5.0 supports more storage devices than any other backup software available for the Mac OS. Hard disk drives, Apple CD-RW drives, CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drives, SuperDrives and other writable and rewritable DVD drives, tape drives and libraries, and removable cartridge drives are all supported.

Dantz Retrospect ReviewStill Not Working Reliably, Esp. on Leopard - Version: 6.1.230, 8/28/2008 10:46AM PST

I have used Retrospect for many clients for many years. The software gets worse and worse, and live support is unavailable without a fee.

I have been testing Personal Backup, CCClone, Foldersync and SuperDuper to try to find a perfect solution. I have found technical problems or severe limitations with all these products and have not yet found a way around them. So I use several at the same time.

But I cannot use Retrospect since it hangs without issuing an error message on the several versions of Leopard I have tried it on - including 10.5.4. Going to the Activity Monitor, I can see it is "not responding".

I hoped 6.1.230 would help, but it does not. On 10.4.11 REtrospect seems to work.

Does anyone still use it? And more importantly, does anyone successfully retrieve/restore backed up files/systems?

The installer didn't run to completion, as it said I needed administrator level access to install the product. I _have_ administrator access. I wasn't prompted to enter my administrator credentials.

I also attempted to launch the installer using Pseudo, and I _still_ received the message. I was prompted twice for my credentials, and the the installer quit.

Is anyone else having this problem?
